The Challenge of Being Different
Many of us have grown up with the feeling of "if only" ...if only I weren't so outspoken, if only I weren't so opinionated, if only I weren't so sensitive, or creative, or emotional, or energetic and so forth. In other words, if only I weren't so different. Oftentimes, who we are seems to put us in conflict with our parents, our families, our teachers, our peers, our religion, and even our support systems. In this class we will explore the difficulties and challenges of being different, begin to discover those qualities that make us unique, and then begin replacing the self-defeating tools of conformity, resentment and self-pity with the joy and excitement of self-acceptance, self-trust, self-responsiveness and the need to share and contribute. This 4-week class is both experiential and didactic in nature and is designed to provide an experience of discovery and support.
