Your inner identity already exists and is always ready to assert itself given a chance. Past programming, old wounds and trauma, lack of self-trust, and our own self-doubt and insecurity can interfere with our self-acceptance and belief in self. For me the process of therapy is twofold. It starts with healing the damage that comes from self-criticism and self-rejection. This enables us to begin a process of letting go of what interferes with self-assertion and self-acceptance as we develop the courage to believe in our talents and abilities and strengthen and build on what is right with us. The cost of growth is risk but staying with the familiar when change is indicated can only lead to pain and lack of fulfillment. Growth can be it’s own reward however and gives us a sense of excitement and accomplishment and the motivation to continue. EMDR and Reiki are modalities that can be included to enhance the process of psychotherapy and healing.
